E-commerce, shipping costs rise with the new European management fee

The new EU handling fee of two euros, effective from November 1, adds to the existing three-euro fee for low-value packages, increasing costs for consumers. This regulation aims to cover rising customs control expenses and applies to all shipments from non-EU countries, regardless of value. The cumulative fees can lead to significant additional costs for consumers, particularly affecting low-value purchases. Early data indicates a decline in low-cost imports, with a 31% drop in import declarations for packages under 150 euros from January to September 2026. Industry operators confirm a noticeable decrease in e-commerce shipments from non-EU countries, particularly for lower-value items, as the new fees take effect.
