EANA asks Meta to withdraw clause on news collection

The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) has joined media organizations in urging Meta to remove a clause allowing the tracking and collection of journalistic content. EANA emphasizes that the new terms could harm the media ecosystem, potentially forcing news organizations off Meta's platforms. Secretary-General Alexandru Giboi highlighted the financial implications for smaller media outlets and the risk of misinformation if credible news sources leave. EANA is open to constructive dialogue with Meta regarding licensing models for news content. The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has also requested a suspension of this clause until October 30.
