Ebola surfaces in Nigeria: infection via Uganda airport investigated
The CDC of the African Union is investigating how Ebola reached Nigeria, where the first case was reported this week. The infected woman had been in Uganda, which was declared Ebola-free in July. Authorities are examining whether she had contact with a Kenyan man who died of Ebola after traveling from Uganda. Nigeria is tracing contacts to prevent further spread, while Kenya reports eight new cases linked to the deceased patient. Health measures are being implemented at airports, but the outbreak has already spread to four African countries and isolated cases have appeared in Europe. The current outbreak in Congo is the deadliest ever recorded.
