Ebola spreads further in Congo: over 10,000 people infected

The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing its fastest-growing Ebola outbreak, with over 10,000 cases and nearly 4,900 deaths reported. The Bundibugyo variant is particularly deadly, with a 48% fatality rate. The outbreak has led to unrest, including attacks on health workers, and has spread to neighboring countries like Kenya and Nigeria. There are currently no specific vaccines or effective treatments for this variant, complicating control efforts. However, clinical trials for potential vaccines and treatments are underway, and over 2,600 patients have recovered, providing some hope amidst the crisis.
