Ebola. DR Congo surpasses ten thousand cases and approaches five thousand deaths
The Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed 10,000 confirmed cases and nearly 5,000 deaths, according to health authorities. As of October 25, there were 10,060 confirmed cases with a fatality rate of 48.6%. The outbreak primarily affects the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, with 32 and 58 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, respectively. This outbreak is the second deadliest in history, surpassing the 2018-2020 outbreak in the same region but still below the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak. The World Health Organization is working on two vaccines for the Bundibugyo strain, while a vaccination campaign using the Ervebo vaccine has been launched. Ebola spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, causing severe hemorrhagic fever and other symptoms.
