ECB President Christine Lagarde to step down in February 2027, nine months before term ends

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, will resign on February 7, 2027, ahead of her term's end in October. The European Council will appoint her successor according to EU treaty rules. Lagarde informed the Governing Council and European Council President Antonio Costa of her decision.
