Digital economy generates 102 billion euros and secures 3.4 million jobs, study reveals
The Digital Economy Annual Study 2026 reveals that Portugal's digital economy generated €102 billion and supports 3.4 million jobs. Since 2019, its growth has outpaced the national economy, with a 71% increase in gross added value (GAV). The digital sector now accounts for 40.4% of the country's GAV, largely due to technology integration in non-tech sectors. Despite high connectivity rates and digital public service usage, advanced digital skills are limited to 32% of the population. Companies lag behind EU averages in technology adoption, with only 11.5% using AI. E-commerce is growing but still trails behind EU rates. Organizations plan to invest more in digital transformation, prioritizing AI and data analysis, yet face challenges like skill shortages and data security.
