The Ecuadorian foreign minister, a Ugandan, an Argentine, and now a diplomat from the Emirates are also in the running for the UN leadership position.

The UN Security Council is still open to new candidates for the Secretary-General position, with insufficient support for current nominees. The Trump administration is reportedly lobbying for Viktor Orbán to succeed António Guterres. Lana Nussibeh from the UAE has entered the race, gaining support for her humanitarian efforts, despite criticism regarding human rights in her country. Other candidates include Rafael Grossi, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Olara Otunnu, and María Fernanda Espinosa. Orbán has expressed interest in the position but only if he is assured of victory.
