Publisher acknowledges use of AI in Thélyson Orélien's novel

Canadian publisher Les Éditions du Boréal has severed ties with Haitian-Canadian author Thélyson Orélien after discovering he used artificial intelligence in his novel "C’était ça ou mourir." Despite Orélien's previous claims of not using AI, the publisher found evidence of AI markers in the manuscript's metadata. The decision follows accusations of AI usage that began in September, leading to an external analysis of the work. The publisher initially chose to keep the book available but later re-evaluated its stance after further allegations of plagiarism emerged. Orélien has publicly denied the AI claims but acknowledged past instances of plagiarism, attributing them to his youth. The controversy intensified with a recent report revealing similarities between an article he co-authored and another published shortly before.
