Publisher acknowledges use of AI in Thélyson Orélien's novel and parts ways with the writer
Canadian publisher Les Éditions du Boréal has severed ties with Haitian-Canadian author Thélyson Orélien after confirming he used artificial intelligence in his novel "C'était ça ou mourir." Despite Orélien's previous claims of not using AI, the publisher found evidence of AI markers in the manuscript's metadata. The decision follows accusations of AI usage that began in September, leading to an external analysis of the work. The controversy escalated with revelations of previous plagiarism incidents and similarities in a recent article published by Orélien. The novel, which was previously shortlisted for the Goncourt Prize, has now been removed from consideration due to these allegations.
