News editors urge Meta to suspend clause on news content collection

The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has requested Meta to suspend a clause allowing the tracking and collection of news content until October 30. They seek assurances that journalistic content will not be used commercially without permission from the rights holders. The clause permits Meta to use automated tools to access news sites, raising concerns about the impact on global journalism. WAN-IFRA highlighted that Meta removed explicit references to AI training but still allows content use for commercial product development. They demand Meta stop creating test credentials for accessing news sites and ensure fair access for news organizations.
