Editors want to suspend news collection by Meta
WAN-IFRA has requested Meta to suspend a clause allowing the tracking and collection of journalistic content until October 30. The association expressed concerns about the potential misuse of news content for commercial purposes without proper authorization. They highlighted that nearly all media organizations have a presence on Meta's platforms, which could lead to widespread implications for journalism. WAN-IFRA also criticized Meta's new subscription service, Meta One, for imposing restrictions on news links while seeking free access to the same content. The association demands written commitments from Meta to ensure permanent exemptions for news organizations and to provide free verification mechanisms.
