A sport without losers: in nomadic sport mokhacha, it's all about playing

Mokhacha, a traditional ball sport from the Moroccan Sahara, is played by nomadic communities and emphasizes participation over competition. Players use sticks made from tamarisk wood and a ball crafted from dromedary wool. The game is passed down through generations and lacks formal rules, focusing instead on enjoyment and community. However, changing lifestyles and urban migration threaten the sport's continuity. Efforts are underway to document and preserve such traditions, highlighted during the International Festival of Nomads in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, where mokhacha was featured alongside other cultural practices.
