First 'family houses' of West Flanders opened: children can go to youth care providers at home
The first 'family homes' in West Flanders have opened, allowing youth care workers to provide a warm home for up to three vulnerable children. These family homes differ from foster care, as only those already working in youth care can participate. Family home parents receive payment and support from a context facilitator, educator, and coordinator to ensure the children's well-being. The initiative aims to maintain close contact with the children's biological parents to facilitate their return home. Nine family homes are planned in West Flanders, developed by five local youth care organizations in collaboration with the Flemish Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
