First spade for green staircase party and dyke widening at De Wissen in Stokkem

The project at De Wissen visitor center in Stokkem aims to widen the winter dike and create a large green staircase, enhancing the area's appeal. With an investment of over 1.2 million euros, the initiative seeks to blur the boundary between the visitor center and the Oude Maas, providing a new resting spot for visitors. Completion is expected by spring 2027. The redesign will improve accessibility and attract more tourists, benefiting local schools and enhancing the overall experience of the natural landscape. The project is supported by Limburg Sterk Merk and the European Interreg fund, with works commencing in two phases to minimize disruption.
