A single full-time employee oversees the PHP, whose bug caused global panic

The PHP Foundation, responsible for the development of the widely used programming language PHP, is facing financial difficulties, according to its executive director, Elizabeth Barron. The foundation has only one full-time employee and relies on donations for funding. Following the discovery of two serious security vulnerabilities, website protections were strengthened globally. Cloudflare reported millions of attack attempts after the vulnerabilities were disclosed, but no exploitation has been confirmed. The foundation is using AI to identify issues, which has increased the workload for developers. Barron emphasized the reliance of governments and companies on PHP, highlighting its underfunding. In Hungary and other European countries, government websites were temporarily shut down due to these vulnerabilities, which allow remote execution of programs without passwords. Fixes for the vulnerabilities were released by PHP developers.
