Own portrait wall of female professors Erasmus: 'Role models urgently needed'
The Erasmus University in Rotterdam has expanded its portrait gallery of professors to include female professors, highlighting the need for female role models in academia. Renske Keizer, a sociology professor, emphasizes that despite a majority of female students, women are underrepresented in higher academic positions. She points out societal biases and the unequal distribution of domestic responsibilities as contributing factors. Keizer aims to be a role model for young scientists, demonstrating that a successful academic career can coexist with a busy family life. However, she notes that the gallery predominantly features white women, suggesting a need for greater diversity.
