The collision of two trains in Urda, another unbearable tragedy
A train collision in Urda resulted in at least 68 fatalities and 107 injuries, marking Spain's deadliest high-speed train accident. The incident involved an AVE train colliding with a stationary Iryo train on the same Madrid-Andalusia line where a previous accident occurred in January. The Minister of Transport attributed the crash to a decision made by the Adif control center after a technical failure in the LZB safety system. Investigations are ongoing, with the control operator being questioned. The government has declared three days of mourning, and rescue efforts continue to locate trapped victims.
