The CEO of Iryo warned about the problems with the LZB system in its trains three weeks before the Urda accident

Fabrizio Favara, CEO of Iryo, warned about LZB signaling system issues in the Madrid-Sevilla line three weeks before the Urda accident. He highlighted that disconnections cause trains to stop and delay service resumption. The accident, resulting in 69 deaths, was preceded by a similar system failure. Favara explained that while the LZB system is safe, it is outdated and can lead to prolonged service interruptions. He also noted communication issues between Adif and railway companies, stating that operators are not informed about actions taken to resolve reported irregularities. The responsibility for infrastructure risk assessment lies solely with the railway administrator.
