The Iryo train driver was talking to the control center to resume movement when he was hit in Urda

The Iryo train was in communication with the control center to resume its journey when it was struck by an AVE train in Urda. The Iryo had stopped due to a failure in the LZB safety system and was preparing to restart when it encountered a blank signal. Following protocol, the driver began discussions with the control center, but before resuming, the collision occurred, resulting in at least 68 fatalities and many injuries. Transport Minister Óscar Puente stated that the LZB system failure affected a 63-kilometer stretch, halting six trains.
