The Russians released a 74-year-old American who was imprisoned on charges of fighting on the side of the Ukrainians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the release of Stephen Hubbard, a 74-year-old American citizen imprisoned for allegedly fighting for Ukraine. Hubbard, a Michigan teacher, was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison in 2024. His detention was deemed unlawful by the U.S. State Department. During a meeting with U.S. envoy Steven Witkoff, Putin confirmed Hubbard's transfer to Pulkovo Airport. Additionally, Putin mentioned a diesel import agreement with Washington, which has drawn criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Witkoff expressed gratitude for Hubbard's release and highlighted the significance of the agreement amid economic challenges in Russia.
