The first Russian sanctions oil shipment has departed for the USA

The first tanker carrying diesel oil from Russia to the U.S. has departed as part of an agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The Agioi Fanendes, flagged under Malta, loaded approximately 40,000 tons of low-sulfur diesel in Primorsk on October 22 and is expected to arrive in New York by November 7. Trump announced on October 9 that Russia could initially export 300,000 tons of diesel, with plans for additional shipments. This move aims to alleviate high fuel prices in the U.S. ahead of the midterm elections. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak stated that Russia could increase its diesel exports to 3-3.5 million tons monthly by year-end, despite an EU embargo on Russian oil products due to the Ukraine war, which has redirected Russian exports mainly to Brazil, Turkey, and African nations.
