The ice has disappeared from Slovenia's highest peak
The Triglav glacier, Slovenia's highest peak, has completely disappeared, marking a significant loss for local identity and climate change indicators. Between 1983 and 2003, it lost 93% of its mass, with recent hot summers accelerating its decline. Historical records show it once covered 40 hectares in the 1800s, but by 1946, it had shrunk to 14 hectares. The last images from mid-October reveal no remaining ice, highlighting the rapid changes in the region's climate.
