Gyárfás Tamás's motion for a retrial was rejected

The Court of Appeals rejected Tamás Gyárfás's request for a retrial in the case of media entrepreneur János Fenyő's murder. Gyárfás, former president of the Hungarian Swimming Federation, was sentenced to seven years in prison last spring. His lawyer argued for a retrial based on new witness statements, claiming they could prove Gyárfás's innocence. However, the court found these statements did not meet the legal criteria for new evidence. The decision is not final, and Gyárfás's defense can appeal to the Curia within eight days. New witnesses have emerged since the original verdict, including one claiming to know the actual instigator of the murder, who is not Gyárfás. Gyárfás was imprisoned in May and may be eligible for conditional release after serving three-quarters of his sentence.
