"In Silence" takes the stage to tell 48 years of dictatorship
The play "Em silêncio" premieres at Teatro S. Luiz in Lisbon, exploring 48 years of Portugal's Estado Novo dictatorship through historical documents and political prisoner testimonies. Directed by Teresa Sobral, the production aims to address the lack of education about this period in schools. Sobral conducted interviews with former political prisoners and researched extensively to ensure historical accuracy. The narrative covers significant events, including Salazar's rise to power, the repression of dissent, and the social consequences of the regime. The immersive experience features live music and large projections, aiming to engage audiences with Portugal's history. The play runs until November 1, with special sessions for secondary schools.
