"In Silence" takes the stage to break the silence of 48 years of dictatorship
The play "Em silêncio" premieres at Teatro S. Luiz in Lisbon, focusing on Portugal's 48-year Estado Novo dictatorship through historical documents and political prisoner testimonies. Created by Teresa Sobral, the production aims to address the lack of education about this period in schools. Sobral spent nearly thirteen years researching and interviewing former political prisoners to ensure historical accuracy. The narrative includes significant events from the dictatorship, such as Salazar's rise to power and the repression faced by political prisoners. The immersive performance features live music and large projections, aiming to engage the audience with the historical facts presented. The play runs until November 1, with special sessions for secondary schools.
