Businessman Mário Ferreira acquitted of tax fraud in ship sale

Businessman Mário Ferreira was acquitted of qualified tax fraud related to the sale of the ship Atlântida. The court found insufficient evidence to support the charges against him and the involved companies. The ship was purchased for €8.75 million and sold for €11 million to a Maltese company, which later sold it for €17 million. The prosecution alleged that the sale was simulated to evade taxes, claiming an undeclared profit of €3.7 million, resulting in an illegitimate tax advantage of around €1 million. However, the judges ruled that the necessary elements of the crime were not proven.
