In Algeria, Parliament authorizes the deployment of military units to Niger

On October 25, the Algerian Parliament approved the deployment of military units to Niger, marking a significant shift from its traditional non-intervention policy. Both chambers, the National People's Assembly and the Senate, voted in favor of this military projection, which the ruling FLN party confirmed pertains to Niger. This decision aims to safeguard Algeria's vital interests amid increasing cross-border threats, conflicts in the Sahel region, and the rise of terrorism and organized crime. The vote represents a pivotal moment in Algeria's security policy evolution, following a constitutional revision in 2020 that allowed military deployments abroad with parliamentary approval.
