In Guyana, the prefect activates the Orsec "drought" plan to supply isolated municipalities facing the effects of El Niño
In response to the gradual interruption of river traffic in French Guiana due to a rainfall deficit, the prefect has activated the drought emergency plan. This decision, made in consultation with local authorities, aims to assist isolated populations by coordinating logistics for essential supplies. Operations will focus on communities without road access, ensuring the delivery of necessities and maintaining public services. The region is experiencing significant drought linked to an exceptional El Niño event, which has drastically lowered water levels. The UN has warned that the current El Niño could be unprecedented.
