In Poland, the president of the Constitutional Tribunal dismissed, police deployed in Warsaw

Police were deployed around the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw following the suspension of its president, Bogdan Swieczkowski. This suspension has intensified the conflict between the nationalist right and the centrist government led by Donald Tusk. President Karol Nawrocki interrupted his official trip to Senegal to return to Warsaw. Anti-riot police blocked access to the tribunal for supporters of the opposition party PiS, who have been protesting for weeks in support of the judges. The tribunal has faced criticism from the EU for its political dependence. Tusk has promised to restore the rule of law but has faced obstacles in appointing judges. The tribunal denied the suspension, claiming Swieczkowski remains in office, while PiS supporters protested outside, chanting against Tusk.
