In Sweden, the Centre Party announces its failure to form a government

A third attempt to form a government in Sweden has failed, leaving the country without a new executive after the September elections. Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist, leader of the Centre Party, could not unite left and right parties. She noted a centrist majority exists, but not for a centrist government. The Speaker of Parliament, Andreas Norlén, must now decide the next steps. The left opposition won a narrow majority in the elections, but Magdalena Andersson failed twice to form a government. The Centre Party's refusal to collaborate with the far-right Democrats makes it difficult for the right bloc to gain a parliamentary majority. If the fourth attempt fails, early elections will be called.
