In Tunisia, the army is trying to bring young people back to national service
A significant number of young men are queuing for military service in Sousse, Tunisia, despite the service being largely avoided since the 2011 revolution. Although recruitment officially ended on October 2, the center continues to accept volunteers due to new sanctions against those who refuse. The Tunisian army is generally well-regarded, but mandatory service has been neglected for years. Historical enforcement measures have diminished, particularly after the Ben Ali era, leading to a lack of compliance among youth. A recent law exempts those born before January 1, 2000 from service.
