Rent control: the Senate adopts the extension of the scheme in a minimalist version

On October 21, the French Senate voted overwhelmingly to extend rent control measures for two more years, benefiting 1.2 million tenants. The law allows nine territories to maintain rent caps until 2028, despite previous predictions of its discontinuation. The proposal received broad support, except from the National Rally party, and aligns closely with the Senate's economic committee's version, differing from a previous proposal by MP Iñaki Echaniz. Echaniz celebrated the outcome as a victory for tenants and local mayors, highlighting the importance of tenant associations in this process.
