UN Secretary-General search: the number of candidates has risen to nine

Turkey has officially nominated Feridun Sinirlioglu for the UN Secretary-General position, joining eight other candidates. António Guterres's term ends on December 31. The Security Council will first select a candidate, followed by a vote in the General Assembly. Reports suggest support for Viktor Orbán as a joint candidate from the US, Russia, and China, although some speculate this may be a diversion for Trump's actual choice. The leading compromise candidate is UAE diplomat Lana Nusseibeh.
