The head of the EP delegation investigating in Budapest spoke about noticeable changes but also shortcomings.

Sophie Wilmès, head of the European Parliament delegation, noted significant changes in Hungary during their visit, highlighting improved cooperation with civil society and the judiciary. However, she pointed out ongoing issues, such as concerns over the 12-year term limit for MPs and shortcomings in LGBTQ rights. The delegation discussed the establishment of the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office and Hungary's accession to the European Public Prosecutor's Office, which have positively impacted the rule of law. The 'Article 7' procedure, which could suspend Hungary's voting rights, remains unresolved. The delegation aims to gather information for a report ahead of a parliamentary vote in December.
