Spain, the EU country that has allocated the most European funds for its own Administration expenses: 11 billion

Spain has utilized the most Next Generation EU funds for its administration, totaling €11.033 billion, surpassing Italy's €9.039 billion. Despite this, the European Court of Auditors criticizes the limited results achieved in modernizing public administrations. While Spain shows positive examples in administrative digitalization, overall effectiveness remains questionable. The report highlights that many structural weaknesses persist and that only a third of audited measures yielded significant results. Concerns are raised about the future sustainability of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, emphasizing the need for substantial evaluations and transparency in fund allocation.
