Spain and Italy end border controls

Spain and Italy have lifted mutual border controls at ports and airports, which were imposed due to a diplomatic crisis over the influx of migrants in Ceuta. The decision follows a thorough assessment of the situation and aims to enhance information exchange for security within the Schengen area. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni previously agreed to this resolution during a meeting in Brussels. Italy had suspended Schengen agreements with Spain on August 1, leading to passenger checks, which Spain reciprocated. The Italian government justified its actions based on the migrant situation in Ceuta, while Spain criticized Italy's decision as unreasonable.
