Spain. Operators and machinists want to reduce speed
The train tragedy in Urda may prompt changes in Spain's high-speed train regulations, particularly regarding LZB signaling failures. Iryo, the Italian operator involved, suggests reducing train speeds to 40 km/h under an alternative system until safety confirmation is received. This follows previous accidents in Córdoba and Toledo, resulting in significant casualties. The proposed measures aim to enhance communication protocols and safety, with pressure from operators and drivers on Adif, the infrastructure manager. The LZB system failure led to a collision at high speed, highlighting the need for stricter safety protocols. Iryo plans to communicate these changes to other operators like Ouigo, while train drivers express support for increased safety measures.
