Life expectancy at birth increases by more than three months
Life expectancy at birth in Portugal has increased by over three months from 2023 to 2025, reaching 81.85 years. The rise is attributed to a 3.4-month increase for men and 3.1 months for women, with current life expectancies at 79.22 and 84.26 years, respectively. The Northern region recorded the highest life expectancy at 82.31 years, while the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores had the lowest figures. Significant gender differences in longevity were noted, particularly in the Azores and Alentejo, where women outlive men by over six years. The highest life expectancy at age 65 was also found in the North, with notable regional variations across sub-regions.
