Esposende will start charging a tourist tax in 30 days
Esposende will implement a municipal tourist tax of €2 during peak season and €1.5 in low season, starting in 30 days. The tax applies to guests aged 16 and older for a maximum of five consecutive nights across all types of accommodation. Exemptions include guests visiting for health reasons, those mandated by public entities, asylum seekers, and local residents. The regulation notes a significant increase in tourist numbers from 2020 to 2025, leading to greater pressure on municipal services. Revenue from the tax will fund maintenance and improvements of tourist-related infrastructure and services, with potential annual adjustments based on inflation.
