Is it really reasonable to... raise your collar?
The fashion industry promotes the idea that style is primarily about buying new clothes, but a simple gesture like raising a collar can be both free and effective. Raising the collar of a trench coat is practical in rainy weather, while doing so with a sailor's coat aligns with maritime aesthetics. However, this gesture can seem pretentious when done purely for aesthetic reasons, echoing the 19th-century criticism of dandyism. For instance, raising a polo collar may appear overly formal, while doing so with a football jersey can convey confidence, as exemplified by players like Eric Cantona and Michael Olise.
