Estado Novo has an interpretive center in Santa Comba Dão

The Secretary of State for Culture emphasized the importance of studying dictatorship as a democratic responsibility during the opening of the Interpretative Center of the Estado Novo in Vimieiro. This center, associated with Salazar, aims to explore the regime's history and its implications for the future. Concerns were raised by former political prisoners about potential rehabilitation of Salazar's image, which the Secretary acknowledged as valid. He expressed hope that the center would promote free thinking and a commitment to democracy. The scientific committee includes notable figures committed to historical research and democracy, countering criticisms from both nostalgia for Salazarism and fears of fascist rehabilitation. The mayor highlighted the center's educational purpose, encouraging open discussions about Portugal's history.
