Estonia is preparing bunkers near the border with Russia. The minister revealed the plan
Estonia plans to construct around 150 bunkers near its border with Russia as part of a broader defense initiative. Defense Minister Martin Herem outlined the project, which includes both state-owned and private lands, during a parliamentary session. The bunkers will enhance the Baltic Defense Line, aimed at strengthening NATO's eastern flank against potential threats. The construction will require agreements with private landowners, and the government does not intend to acquire properties en masse. The overall plan includes up to 600 bunkers, anti-tank ditches, and other defensive measures, with a focus on maintaining accessibility to surrounding areas during peacetime. The project is part of Estonia's broader military readiness strategy, which includes relocating military units closer to the border and enhancing public preparedness for crises.
