Estonia to build 150 bunkers along Russian border
Estonia plans to construct around 150 bunkers along its border with Russia to enhance defense readiness, as stated by Defense Minister Martin Herem. The bunkers will be located in the Ida-Virumaa region, with a mix of state and private land usage. This initiative responds to increasing Russian threats and follows a trend of heightened military preparedness in the Baltic states. NATO has noted various hybrid threats from Russia, prompting regional countries to strengthen their defenses, including troop deployments and air defense enhancements. Estonia's defense spending is notably high at 5.4% of GDP, surpassing NATO's requirements. Neighboring Latvia and Lithuania are also taking measures to bolster their military presence along the border with Russia.
