UBI students protest against tuition fee increase
Students from the University of Beira Interior protested against the government's plans to increase tuition fees and cut public investment. They expressed concerns over the proposed reforms in social action and the so-called 'Exclusion Decree', which introduces new entrance exams and quotas for master's and doctoral programs, limiting access for many students. Protesters highlighted the financial burden on families due to rising accommodation costs and criticized the long-standing underfunding of the university, particularly affecting courses like Cinema and Fashion Design. They emphasized the need for adequate resources to support their education and called out the government and political parties for perpetuating inequalities in higher education.
