Students demand an end to national exams

The Voz aos Estudantes movement has gathered 5,000 signatures to demand the abolition of national exams, arguing they disadvantage poorer students and favor those who can afford better preparation. João Baldaia, a leader of the movement, stated that exams do not ensure equal opportunities in education and access to higher education, as evidenced by recent school rankings. He noted that most top-ranked schools are private and that over 80% of top grades were awarded to students without social support. The movement advocates for continuous assessment instead of exams to promote true equality in educational success.
