Students protest against the unfreezing of tuition fees
University students in Lisbon are set to protest against the government's proposal to unfreeze tuition fees starting from the 2027/2028 academic year. The demonstration, organized by student associations from various faculties, will take place at 5 PM in front of the government headquarters. Students oppose the plan to adjust tuition fees, which have remained unchanged since 2020. The proposed budget for 2027 suggests that the maximum tuition fee will be capped at 697 euros, plus an increase based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for 2026. This proposal follows a previous attempt to unfreeze fees that was blocked by opposition parties last year, maintaining the current fee level.
