Study on waste evaluates mechanical treatment proposal
A Portuguese environmental association, ZERO, announced that a study by the APA will evaluate a mechanical and biological treatment proposal for waste management in the Algarve. This proposal aims to install two TMB units to process organic waste and recyclables, potentially diverting 70% of waste from landfills. The study, confirmed by the Minister of Environment, will also consider incineration, which is more costly and time-consuming. ZERO emphasizes the environmental benefits and cost-effectiveness of TMB over incineration, which could exceed 300 million euros. The study will be formalized through a protocol signed today in Faro.
