Ethiopia: at least 50,000 people have fled to Kenya due to clashes in the south of the country

A recent armed conflict in southern Ethiopia has led to approximately 50,000 people fleeing to Kenya, according to the UNHCR. This figure has increased from an earlier estimate of 36,000. The conflict began on October 20, following a regional flag being raised in Moyale, a border town. Many of the displaced are women and children, with some staying with relatives while others are in temporary shelters. The UNHCR is providing emergency assistance and collaborating with the Kenyan government and other agencies to address humanitarian needs. Tensions persist in other Ethiopian regions, including Tigray, raising concerns about further conflict.
