ETS: The EU has plugged the bathtub. Poland wanted more, but is satisfied
Poland has agreed to a compromise regarding the removal of carbon allowances, aiming to prevent further losses in the market. The new reserve will act as a safety buffer, allowing additional permits to be released if needed, which could lower energy costs for households and industries. Currently, around 16 million allowances are permanently removed each month, leading to significant potential losses. Polish diplomats emphasize the importance of halting this removal process to stabilize the market. EU leaders have called for swift changes to address high energy prices and fluctuations in CO₂ prices, linking this agreement to broader reforms of the ETS system.
